Etosha Overview
Etosha National Park is home to four of the Big 5. Elephants and lions are common in the park, while the elusive leopard hides in the densely vegetated areas. However, one of the best reasons to visit Etosha is its healthy population of black rhinoceros. This archaic beast is endangered and the waterholes are probably among the best places in the world to see this precious animal.
Believed to have originated over 12 million years ago as a shallow lake, Etosha National Park is said to have the tallest Elephants in Africa, (up to 12 feet the shoulder), Etosha is recognized as being one of the last wild sanctuaries of the endangered Black Rhino.
Home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. Largely flat with vast grasslands surrounding its famous Etosha Pan. The bush is scanty and the animals that call this area home have adapted to these arid conditions. Most of the year, they have to rely on the numerous waterholes (some natural, some man-made) that are dotted throughout this vast reserve.

The park is home to 114 species of mammals! The large mammals include elephant, giraffe, lion, leopard, rhino, wildebeest, hyena, springbok, cheetah, mountain and plains zebra, kudu, gemsbok and eland. Among the smaller species you will find warthog, jackal, bat-eared fox, honey badger and ground squirrels.

The main House is thatched and has a true bush camp feel to it. The early evenings see a camp fire lit where guest can exchange stories of the day’s wildlife sightings. Dinner, lunch and breakfast are served on the thatched verandah with the bush being a mere step away.

Swakopmund is a quaint little town sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert and has its own authentic colonial charm. From the rugged, desolate beauty of the desert, to the historical grace of its buildings, a visit to the Skeleton Coast is a unique experience.
Travelers have long mystified the Skeleton Coast with its intriguing stories of shipwrecks, desolate dunes and beach roaming carnivores. But due to its harsh environment and long history under varying control and protection, few people have had the opportunity to experience this fascinating corner of the world. With a new eco-tourism venture, the northern sector of the Skeleton Coast is becoming more accessible to the high scale adventure.

Ideally located in the heart of Swakopmund! Based on the original building, this colonial house was constructed between 1908 and 1913, the elegant Villa was completely refurbished for opening in 2008.
Accommodation comprises of 8 suites and bedrooms, all with en-suite bathroom facilities. Some of these have a private lounge area, but all offer guests that intimacy and privacy they are seeking on a getaway trip! In each room you will find a safe, a hairdryer, plus everything you need to make a strong coffee first thing or a cup of tea to soothe the soul when you return at night.
In the communal living room there is a small library and fireplace, lovely for resting up with a book and keeping warm during the cooler days and as night draws in after a day out and about. A restaurant, which must be pre-booked, serves evening meals, and there is also a quaint garden with decking, beautiful flowers adorning the scene. In summer it is here where breakfast is served and it makes for a wonderful and peaceful start to the day!

Sossusvlei & Deadvlei visit!
No trip to Namibia is complete without setting foot in the Namib desert. This sea of sand stretches for more than 2000km along the Atlantic coast of Angola, Namibia and South Africa. Deadvlei in the Sossusvlei area is without a doubt the most iconic and accessible place to visit in this starkly beautiful region.
The name “Sossusvlei” roughly translates into “dead-end marsh". A vlei is a marsh in Afrikaans. This is the place where sand dunes come together and prevent the Tsauchab River to flow any further, in the dry Namib Desert the River however seldom flows this far resulting in a dry pan most years.
Sossusvlei is a huge area in the park that includes iconic locations such as Dune 45, Deadvlei, Big Daddy, and Sesriem Canyon; it is one of Namibia's most popular visitor attractions. Big Daddy is the park's tallest dune.
The park's vast red sand dunes have always been on my bucket list of places to see in the globe, and the spectacular scenery did not disappoint! Sossusvlei is a vast white salt and clay pan surrounded by massive red sand dunes that is found in Namibia.
An absolute dream to visit with a camera, the incredible scenery makes anyone look like a professional photographer!

Pre-Travel Information
Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the return date of your arrangements and have a minimum of three blank visa pages excluding endorsement pages. Travellng with minors - in addition to having a valid passport and valid visa (if applicable), children under the age of 18, traveling through Botswana’s borders, must be in possession of a certified copy of their unabridged birth certificate (one that shows the particulars of a minor and those of both parents). A child under the age of 18 traveling to Botswana and/or South Africa with just one parent must carry an affidavit signed by the other parent consenting to such travel. Failure to produce the necessary documentation may result in travelers being turned away at port of entry. Insider Tips Zimbabwe and Mozambique visas each use up a full passport page. If you are visiting both countries we recommend a minimum of four blank pages. Post Covid passport renewals are taking much longer than in the past so don’t leave applying for a new passport until the last moment as there iust a chance you won’t receive it in time to travel. Keeping your passport safe is key as there is nothing worse than having to spend precious holiday time replacing it. Make at least two copies of the ID page of your passport, visa (if obtained in advance of travel), Covid-19 vaccine passport, travel itinerary, travel insurance, credit cards and any other travel documentation. One copy can be an image scan and the other a hard copy which you can give to a family member, business associate or close friend for safekeeping When it comes to health risks and medical precautions, Machaba Blue is only able to offer limited advice as outlined below. Those with underlying chronic conditions should ideally seek medical advice prior to planning their journey. Prior to traveling to Africa, we highly recommend you visit a medical professional such as your GP or local travel clinic for advice on what health precautions need to be taken. This visit should take place at least 4-8 weeks prior to departure as it will determine the need for any vaccinations and/or antimalarial medication as well as identifying any other medical precautions. Currently no mandatory vaccinations are required when entering Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. Please check if this is still the case when visiting your GP or travel clinic. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required by visitors coming from a country where yellow fever occurs, or if they have been in transit for more than 12 hours at an airport in a country here yellow fever occurs. Malaria is present throughout southern Africa and in certain areas of South Africa.
